Dec. 08--JAMES CITY -- A 38-year-old county woman confessed Wednesday to setting fire to her home on Richmond Road.
Encela Pardo, the only occupant of the residence, confessed to the arson, which took place on Nov. 29 in the 9100 block of Richmond Road. She was arrested by county fire marshals, according to a release from James City County. The fire was originally reported as occurring on Barnes Road.
Smoke and flames were visible at the roof of the house when units arrived. Firefighters got the fire under control within 20 minutes. One firefighter suffered a foot injury but has since returned to work.
The release states Pardo confessed to starting the fire in a small bedroom used for storage and then left the house. She returned after firefighters extinguished the blaze, which reportedly did about $30,000 worth of damage to the structure.
Pardo is being held without bond at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
