Three Martin County, Fla. Fire Rescue firefighters were injured Thursday morning while battling an early morning fire, reports the Palm Beach Post.
Crews arrived at the fire scene in Stuart within minutes of the emergency call and found heavy smoke conditions, the paper reports.
Conditions rapidly deteriorated as firefighters searched the structure, and they were forced to make a “mayday” call.
After being rescued by fellow firefighters, one firefighter was treated and released at the scene, a second was taken to a hospital and released, and the third was flown to Jackson Memorial Burn Unit in Miami and remains in critical condition, the Post reports.
The Florida State Fire Marshal is reportedly investigating the incident.
