Jan. 23--A controlled burn that got out of hand Tuesday morning in Lake County had consumed more than 300 acres by early afternoon.

The wildland fire in the Kelseyville area was moving up thick brush on Mt. Konocti and not threatening any structures, according to Cal Fire Capt. Jeff Gahagan.

The fire was only about 10 percent contained.

"We're getting several escaped control burns today for some reason," he said.

Even though the area has received above-average rainfall this season, the vegetation has dried since the last storms.

"The last rainfall was quite awhile ago and everything is pretty dry," Gahagan said.

The fire was reported just after 11 a.m.

Fire crew were accessing the blaze at the intersection of Highway 29 and Red Hills Road.

A helicopter, six fire crews, three bulldozers, eight fire engines and two water tenders were dispatched by Cal Fire. South Lake County Fire and Kelseyville Fire departments were also assisting.

There was no estimate when the fire would be brought under control. Gahagan said crews will be there tonight and tomorrow.
