Two men from Tennessee became stranded and disorientated in Broward County Everglades while hunting python and required assistance from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel.

Feb. 08--Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue had to hunt for two python hunters in the northwestern reaches of Broward's Everglades on Thursday.

The two men, ages 22 and 25, had traveled from Tennessee to hunt pythons in the Everglades but got lost 15 miles west of U. S. Highway 27, Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said.

Just before 4 p.m. the hunters called for help saying they were stranded and disoriented. BSFR Regional Everglades units and BSO Air Rescue began a search of the area.

Around 4:30 p.m., air rescue located both men about two miles north of the L-5 Levee and 15 miles west of U. S. 27. The helicopter landed in the Everglades and brought the two men to the waiting rescue units about two miles away, Jachles said.

The hunters complained of lightheadedness and weakness and were suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration. Both patients were treated at the scene and declined a trip to the hospital, he said.

Firefighters were told the pair was from Tennessee and they were in Florida to hunt pythons but they had no local address. It is believed they were staying in their car in the Everglades while hunting, Jachles said.

Their names were not released.
