Fire Damages Lake-front Home in New York

May 27--PLATTSBURGH -- Several fire departments battled a blaze on Cumberland Head early Sunday morning that left a large lake-front home severely damaged.
Report of the fire at 1068 Cumberland Head Road came in at 11:53 p.m. Saturday night, according to Clinton County Office of Emergency Services Director Eric Day.
According to the real estate site Zillow.com, the six-bedroom home, valued at more than $700,000, includes about 500 feet of waterfront and about 12 acres. The secluded home, accessed via a long driveway, sits on a bluff overlooking Lake Champlain.
Cumberland Head Fire Department was assisted by Beekmantown, District 3, Chazy and South Plattsburgh fire departments, while crews from Cadyville, Morrisonville and Peru were on standby.
Day said people were at the single-family residence when the fire broke out, but none of them were injured. It is unknown how many people lived at the home.
A firefighter from the Beekmantown Fire Department was brought to the hospital with something in his eye, Day said, but is believed to be OK.
Information about the cause of the fire and the ownership of the home was not available Sunday evening.
