June 02--A fire in Walsenburg on Friday night left three families without a home and caused numerous other households to be evacuated. The fire originated near the intersection of Eighth Street and South Albert Avenue at approximately 6:15 p.m. Friday.

The fire engulfed and destroyed three mobile homes, according to Diego Bobian, Huerfano County emergency management manager.

A total of five adults and one child from different families were displaced due to the blaze. All of them were able to escape the mobile homes without injury. Huerfano County emergency management is in contact with Red Cross to get the families a place to stay for the next few days, according to Bobian. Donations for the families will soon be accepted at the local Safeway.

The fire's size was undetermined Saturday. It burned for about 31/ 2 hours before being completely extinguished around 10 p.m., Bobian said.

"The way the wind was blowing, it was spreading pretty fast," Bobian said.

The fire closed West Seventh Street/Colorado 160 West from the intersection of Main Street to South Hendren Avenue for an extended period of time.
