Blaze Destroys Wash. HQ of Colville Confederated Tribes

July 29--NESPELEM -- An early-morning fire burned down the administration building for the Colville Confederated Tribes today.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 1:15 a.m. and the building was fully engulfed in flames, said Matt Haney, director of public safety for the tribes.
He said firefighters and were able to contain the blaze to the administration building. A Bureau of Indian Affairs building attached to the back of the administration building was not burned, he said.
The building contained records, computers, and personal items of the tribes' 14 council members, along with support staff and other government offices.
The cause is under investigation.
