Several Hurt in D.C. Apartment Building Fire

Six people, including three kids, were transported to the hospital.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- An early-morning fire that ripped through a southeast DC apartment building has left several people injured and forced others from their homes.

DC Police officials say the fire was first reported around 12:45 Thursday morning in the 2800 block of Denver Street. At one point the fire was so intense, flames could be seen shooting through the roof of the structure.

Police say six people were taken to the hospital for treatment, including three children. Many of those injured were suffering from smoke inhalation. They are expected to be okay.

A total of eight residents have been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting those individuals.
