COLUMBIA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Three people are injured and their dog is dead after a house fire in the 6100 block of Forty Winks Way in Columbia on Wednesday morning.
Approximately 20 firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene at 4:45 a.m., say Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services officials. Heavy fire was coming from the front of the home. Firefighters were able to remove one person from the home, say officials.
One person refused to be transpoted to the hospital. Two other people suffered minor injuries and were transported to a hospital, say officials. The family's dog did not survive the fire.
In approximately 45 minutes, the fire was extinguished, say officials. Extensive damage to the house means the house will be declared uninhabitable once firefighters finish working to make sure the fire is completely out and that they have done all they can to protect the family's belongings from further damage, according to officials.
Officials say neighbors will be assisting the family with housing.
The HCDFRS' Fire Investigation Division will investigate the cause fo the fire.
