A shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. has left possibly six dead and many others injured.
Police said one shooter was dead and they were looking for two others who possibly were involved.
National Airport and schools have been shut down as Naval and authorities try to sort things out.
The incident was described as "active and ongoing."
A senior Navy officer on the base told Pentagon officials that at least 12 were shot including two law enforcement officers, one local and one service member.
A triage area was set up by the D.C. Fire and EMS, and many employees were being checked out.
Helicopters from several jurisdictions responded to assist, and four were shown hoisting injured people in Stokes baskets.
The first victim -- a 60-year-old man -- was transported to George Washington Hospital in trauma arrest after being shot in the temple.
He died a short time later, the head trauma surgeon said adding that D.C. EMS crews were performing CPR and an airway was in place.
He added thatit was an unsurvivable injury.
Three other victims -- a police officer and two women -- were being treated at MedStar at Washington Hospital Center.
The officer suffered wounds to both legs, while one woman had been shot in the head and hand. Another woman had a shoulder injury. All were conscious, and talking.
The officer was in surgery as of 11:30 a.m. All are expected to survive.
"We're pretty darn experienced in this..." she told reporters during a news conference.
