Nov. 15--Smoke from a fire at two poultry production houses in Calvert Thursday could be seen as far as 10 miles away, according to the Calvert Fire Department.

The Bremond, Franklin, Seale-Round Prairie, Hearne, Easterly, Wheelock and Black Jack volunteer fire departments assisted Calvert firefighters in putting out the fire in the 6000 block of Rose Hill Road around 5:20 p.m., where flames had fully engulfed one structure and overtook the second soon after, Calvert firefighter Renda Bermudez said.

The structures, which are owned by a company that contracts with Sanderson Farms in Waco, were empty at the time, Bermudez said.

No injuries were reported. The fire was contained just after 6 p.m., and first responders cleared the scene by 8:30 p.m.
