Dec. 03--PLATTSBURGH -- A Plattsburgh teen has been charged with arson in connection with two city fires.
Bruce Bombard, 17, of Halsey Court faces charges of second-degree arson, third-degree arson and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, all felonies.
At 3:52 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, Plattsburgh City Police officers assisted SUNY University Police with a vehicle fire at the college's service compound on Sanborn Avenue.
The circumstances surrounding that fire were suspicious, City Police said Monday in a news release.
A Chevy C/K 1500 pickup truck owned by SUNY Plattsburgh and used for maintenance work was left charred inside and badly damaged on the outside.
At 4:08 a.m., while still at the college fire, another call came in reporting a fire at 87 Lafayette St.
Police officers headed there and found an exterior corner of the residence on fire. Officers fought the blaze with fire extinguishers until Plattsburgh City Fire Department crews arrived to put the fire out.
Evidence at the Lafayette Street residence suggested the fire was intentionally lit, City Police said.
A resident suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh for treatment and then sent home.
City Police detectives were called in and began a joint investigation with SUNY Police.
Through interviews and evidence collected, a suspect was developed, the release said.
Detectives interviewed Bombard and then arrested him.
He was arraigned in front of City Court Judge Mark Rogers and sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
As of late Monday afternoon, Bombard had not made bail and was still in the jail.
