Jan. 10--A $5,000 bond was set Friday for Justin Wayne LeBoeuf, who is charged with stealing a Lumberton Fire Department brush truck.
The 19-year-old former volunteer firefighter turned himself in at the Hardin County Jail around noon Wednesday for the charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state jail felony, said Chief Deputy Kenny Davenport of the sheriff's office.
Authorities were tipped off that the volunteer was suspected of the crime and obtained a warrant. Around noon the young man turned himself in, Davenport said.
The truck was recovered in Tyler County Monday and firefighting equipment, such as a winch and chain saw, were later recovered. Davenport said that they were contacted by the Tyler County Sheriffs's Office about the vehicle. Davenport said law enforcement there located the truck stuck by a residence on Monday.
It's believed the truck was taken between Sunday and Monday, he said.
"At the time, they didn't know it was gone," Davenport said about the Lumberton Fire Department.
The truck was taken from the department building off Keith Road, which was locked, he said. It doesn't appear there was forced entry into the fire station, he said.
