Feb. 25--GOLDENS BRIDGE, N.Y. -- The Monday morning fire that caused extensive damage to the Goldens Bridge fire station and destroyed three pieces of equipment has been ruled accidental by investigators.
The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team and the New York State Police said late Monday afternoon that the blaze appears to have originated in a faulty electrical connection to a fire truck that was parked inside the brick Route 138 firehouse.
A fire commissioner and a volunteer firefighter were inside the station when the blaze broke out about 9:20 a.m. The firefighter suffered smoke inhalation while moving several pieces of apparatus out of the burning building.
Fire departments from Bedford (Bedford Hills), Lewisboro (Vista and South Salem), North Salem (Croton Falls), Yorktown Heights, Mount Kisco and Brewster, among others, assisted in battling the blaze.
When crews arrived, flames were shooting out of the roof of the building.
The area of Waccabuc Road near the Golden Bridge fire station remained closed for several hours Monday while the crews battled the blaze.
Goldens Bridge is close to Ridgefield.
The Goldens Bridge Fire District, founded in 1909, includes parts of Lewisboro and Somers and has about 100 members.
