Wis. Controlled Burns Spark Wildfires, Burn 1,000 Acres

Firefighters from 18 departments fought a blaze on Thursday and Friday that burned more than 500 acres of Horicon Marsh in Dodge County.

April 13--JUNEAU -- After responding to 18 fire calls in the past two days, Dodge County officials are urging extra caution with controlled burns.

"The dry and windy conditions make for a potentially dangerous situation," Dodge County Sheriff Patricia Ninmann said in a statement. "If there is no need to burn we urge you to wait for conditions that do not present such a hazard."

Firefighters from 18 departments fought a blaze on Thursday and Friday that burned more than 500 acres of Horicon Marsh in Dodge County.

Another marsh fire near Brandon in Fond du Lac County burned more than 600 acres.
