April 16--Prosecutors filed charges against eight people Tuesday in connection with the death of a man whose body was found on fire in Logan County in late January.
Brandy Hanson, 35, and Angel Munoz, 24, were charged in Oklahoma Count District Court with murder and desecrating a body. Also charged Tuesday with murder were John Worcester, 39; Jessie Dalton, 37; Tyson Lott, 21; and Quentin Goodwin, 30. Also charged with desecrating a body were Johnny Snow, 49, and Twilia Wise, 36.
On Jan. 31, firefighters in Logan County responded to reports of a grass fire between Langston and Guthrie. After extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered the body of Shawn Masters, 39, of Blanchard.
It took investigators with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Logan County sheriff's office two months to identify Masters because he was so badly burned, authorities said.
After identifying the body, investigators identified Hanson as one of the last people to be seen with Masters, according to court documents.
During an interview with investigators, Hanson said she and Munoz borrowed a car from Masters and were stopped and arrested because the vehicle was stolen.
Munoz told investigators she was upset with Masters because she thought he might be an undercover police officer. She called her boyfriend, Jessie Dalton, who is in custody at the state penitentiary in McAlester. Dalton is serving two life sentences for separate murders in 2002 and 2009. In the earlier case, he was convicted of killing a man during a home invasion. In the latter, he was convicted in the jailhouse beating death of an accomplice who testified against him in the 2002 trial.
Dalton told Munoz he "would send someone over to take care of it," according to court documents.
Documents show Masters met Munoz and Hanson at Munoz's home, where two men, Goodwin and Lott, attacked Masters with a baseball bat and wooden board. Munoz told investigators she gave Lott and Goodwin a half ounce of methamphetamine as payment, records show.
Death not immediate
Masters did not die immediately, Munoz said, so they put him into a trash can with the help of Worcester, Munoz's brother. Masters was then stabbed and strangled, according to court documents.
Munoz and Hanson rented a truck to take Masters' body, and Munoz drove it to Guthrie with Wise. There, they met Hanson and Snow and drove out to rural Logan County, where they set the trash can with Masters' body on fire, according to court documents.
Hanson, Munoz, Wise and Snow were arrested over the past several weeks and were being held Tuesday in Logan County jail. Logan County Chief Deputy Richard Stephens said the four will likely be taken to Oklahoma County jail this week.
Authorities had not arrested Worcester, Lott or Goodwin as of Tuesday evening.
