Smoke could be seen for miles as flames ripped through a sheet metal plant in Willow Grove.

Smoke could be seen for miles as flames ripped through a sheet metal plant in Willow Grove Monday night.

Officials said explosions were were heard just soon after the fire was discovered at Trico Metal Products, a large sheet metal plant, about 5 p.m.

"It's pretty gutted," Willow Grove Fire Company Chief Brian Focht told Philly.com. "Pretty much the roof and the entire first floor is gone."

Several homes were evacuated while crews tried to get bring the fire under control.

By 6:30 p.m., five alarms has been called and the fire was under control just before 8 p.m.

Focht believes the explosions were from compressed gas cylinders, but said there were no hazardous materials concerns in the aftermath of the blaze.
