Two children were rescued by firefighters Thursday during an early morning house fire in Prince George's County.
Firefighters from the Chapel Oaks station arrived at the 1 1/2-story home in Fairmount Heights around 3:00 a.m. to find fire showing. It was reported that children were still trapped inside.
The crew split up and began searching the first floor while a hoseline was readied.
Two firefighters found the two children, ages 3 and 6, in the living room next to the kitchen where the fire was burning, Spokesmen Mark Brady said in a release.
They were treated by medics at the scene and transported for evaluation. Brady said they are expected to make a full recovery.
Several other residents escaped the home and two suffered smoke inhalation.
Brady believes smoke alarms alerted the family to the fire, which started in the kitchen.
