Registration is open for Firehouse World 2016 in San Diego, and the conference will offer a variety of new sessions, coupled with new education formats to provide you with the most up-to-date information.
“For the first time, Firehouse World will feature both U.S. and international instructors offering their experience and expertise on some of the most critical topics in the fire service today,” Firehouse Editor-in-Chief and Conference Director Tim Sendelbach said. “Our goal is to provide Firehouse World attendees with the opportunity to learn from the most qualified instructors without organizational barriers or geographical borders.”
Sessions at the Jan. 31-Feb. 4 conference include: “Fireground Air Management – US/UK Perspective,” presented by Dave Payton of the West Midlands Fire Service, Birmingham, UK and “Smoke Spread Control and Flow Path Control – A European Perspective,” presented by Regional Fire Commander Michael Reick of Göppingen (Germany) Fire Department.
The latest findings from research will be presented to Firehouse World attendees as well.
“Over the last 12 months, the fire service has experienced some remarkable challenges coupled with some exciting trends and critical debates,” Sendelbach said. “Tactical changes and considerations are being discussed, debated and evaluated on drill grounds and at fire academies throughout the country. Further, to no one’s surprise, and rightfully so, the topic of firefighter safety and LODD/injury prevention continues to be an important topic amongst firefighters of every rank.”
Lessons learned from catastrophic wildland incidents will also be the focus of two special weekend sessions.
Attendees will have the opportunity to walk the terrain and see what firefighters faced during the 2006 Esperanza Fire that claimed five firefighters. The program includes a special Saturday evening reception with nationally acclaimed author John Maclean.
A two-day Fire Department Incident Safety Officer certification program through the Working in partnership with the Fire Department Safety Officers Association (FDSOA) will be available.
The main conference will feature more than 80 conference sessions, including “Civil Unrest: A Real Threat to Public Safety (Baltimore Riots Lessons Learned)”, a moderated panel discussion on “Fire Dynamics and the Modern Fireground: U.S./International Perspective,” “Houston’s Darkest Day—The Aftermath of the Southwest Inn Fire.”
