S.C. Fire Truck Catches Fire After Putting Up Christmas Decorations

Dec. 8, 2015
C&B Volunteer Fire Dept's Snorkel caught fire as firefighters were putting it back in the station after decorating the building.

No one was injured and only the C&B Volunteer Fire Department's aerial was damaged by fire after firefighters finished decorating the station and were putting the apparatus away.

According to local television station ABC4News, a firefighter was driving the truck around the block in Ladson when he suddenly felt warm. He looked in the side mirror and saw flames shooting out of the cab.

The firefighter exited the vehicle through the passenger's side, called for assistance from the neighboring Caromi Fire Department and snapped a photo, the television station reported.

C&B Treasurer Louis Franklin told the TV station the cab is "completely trashed" and the boom was scorched.

"I'm just glad nobody was hurt," she said in the news report.

According to the department's Facebook page, the apparatus is an 85-foot Snorkel built in 1986.

"Well, today is a sad day for C&B," the department posted on it's Facebook page. "After we finished putting up Christmas lights at the station, we drove Tower 401 around the block to place it back in the station and the Tower never made it back to the station.

The department's insurance company has been contacted and C&B firefighters are hoping to have the tower replaced.
