The five-alarm fire damaged three homes and a church in Brooklyn.

New York City firefighters spent several hours Sunday evening trying to contain a fire before it destroyed a church in Brooklyn.

The fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. at home near Arlington Avenue and Elton Street in the Cypress Hills neighborhood.

Flames quickly spread to two other homes before it caught a nearby church on fire, an FDNY spokesman said.

A fifth alarm was called bringing over 200 firefighters to the scene.
