Thief Steals Calif. Wildland Firefighting Gear

Templeton Fire and Emergency Services officials are asking for the return of thousands of dollars of firefighting equipment, which was taken Saturday from a training site.
Crew members late Saturday morning were preparing to practice wildland firefighting techniques on vacant land adjacent to Vineyard Elementary School when they were called out to deal with an emergency, according to a Templeton Fire news release.
The crew members left their gear behind, in order to deal with the situation as quickly as possible. When they returned to resume their training, their equipment was gone and was not located after a thorough search.
The missing items are worth about $2,000 and include two hose packs filled with 400 feet of lightweight hose and other firefighting equipment.
Fire Chief Bill White is asking for the “no questions asked” return of the equipment. Anyone with information about the equipment is encouraged to call the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office at 434-4290 or Crime Stoppers at 549-7867.
Templeton Fire is also accepting donations to replace the equipment. Anyone interested in providing funds can contact White [email protected].
