The thief stopped to let the firefighter out of the back.

A FL man with a broken foot jumped behind the wheel of an ambulance, and took off. But, he stopped briefly to let the firefighter in the back get out.

James W. Sessions, 43, took the ambulance from the parking lot of Central Florida Regional Hospital Tuesday afternoon, WFTV reported.

The ambulance struck a vehicle as he was driving away, witnesses said.

The firefighter who got out of the back confronted Sessions, who drove away.

The crew of a second ambulance at the hospital followed it to a dead end street. Knowing he was trapped, Sessions jumped into a retaining pond, the station reported.

He was detained until police arrived.
