A fire early Saturday morning apparently caused extensive damage to St. John Baptist Church/Catholic Community Academy in Akron.
The Akron Fire Department was called to the church and school at 1044 Brown St. at 4:32 a.m. and found the fire on a second floor.
Smoke and fire damage appeared to be extensive, although flames did not break through the roof, the Akron Fire Department said.
The fire was reported under control by 5:16 a.m. Firefighters said there was no evidence of fire on floors above or below.
As of late Saturday afternoon the fire department was still investigating and had not released the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported and no estimate of damage was available on Saturday.
