A head-on crash involving an ambulance injured five people in Alachua County Thursday.
The ambulance, with its emergency warning equipment activated, was transporting a 73-year-old woman from a crash when it was involved in a head-on crash on State Road 20 around 9:45 p.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the ambulance swerved to avoid hitting an object in the road.
The ambulance then rolled over and landed on top of a Honda Accord, according to local television station WJXT.
The patient in the ambulance was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and the the ambulance crew suffered minor injuries.
According to the police report, the two occupants of the Accord suffered serious injuries.
FHP officials did not identify what agency the ambulance was from and are investigating the cause of the crash.
