Alleged Drunk Driver Hits Helicopter, Apparatus on NM Roadway

The pickup crashed into a medical helicopter and fire truck parked on the highway.

Police arrested a man after he drove around barriers and crashed into a medical helicopter that responded to a crash on Highway 556 near Gallup.

Firefighters and police crews were already working a crash on Navajo route 1149 early Sunday when the unusual crash happened.

The driver, Glenn Livingston, 26, drove around barricades and slammed into the helicopter, which was knocked over on its side, according to KRQE. A fire apparatus was also struck by the driver.

The McKinley County Sheriffs Office said the helicopter was not running and was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

Livingston was charged with aggravated DWI, evading and/or obstructing an officer. resisting and other charges.

No injuries were reported during the second crash and crews transported the critically injured victim from the first crash from the scene.
