Boston Engine Collides with SUV, Four Firefighters, One Civilian Hurt

A Boston Fire engine and an SUV collided in the city’s Back Bay area sending four firefighters and the driver of the other car to the hospital.

A Boston Fire Department engine and a car collided in the city’s Back Bay area sending four firefighters and the driver of the other car to the hospital. None of the injuries were considered life threatening.

According to tweets from the Boston Fire Department’s, Engine 7 was traveling west on Commonwealth Avenue with its lights and sirens activated when it collided with a car at Dartmouth Street.

The engine then veered off course and struck several park cars in a chain reaction collision, according to BFD. None of the parked cars were occupied and the sidewalk was empty at the time of the crash.

The four firefighters in the engine and the driver of the other vehicle were treated by Boston EMS and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for additional treatments, according to BFD. Two were released from the hospital by 4 p.m.

According to WCVBTV5, the other vehicle involved in the collision was an SUV and after the initial collision, Engine 7 hit a line of about 10 cars.

Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn told the television station the injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening. It was not immediately clear if the firefighters were wearing seat belts.

Finn also told the station that firefighters were responding to smoke investigation on Boylston Street when the crash occurred. He said traffic cameras in the area will reveal what happened in the crash.
