May 22-- Four volunteer firefighters suffered minor injuries Sunday when their company's newest apparatus rolled off a road and overturned as it was returning from a call.
The Post Star reports that firefighters with the Bay Ridge Volunteer Fire Department were on their way back to their station when the engine rolled off Clements Road in Queensbury and wound up on its side in a ditch adjacent to the roadway.
Fire Chief Patrick Mellon said at the scene that injuries to the four firefighters were not serious.
"We sent them (to the hospital) as a precaution," Mellon said. "I do not think there were serious injuries. We needed to have them checked out. The accident is still under investigation, so I can't really say anything about what happened, other than they were returning from a call."
According to the Post Star, the apparatus involved was Engine Rescue 323, a Rear Mount Commander custom-built by Minnesota-based manufacturer Rosenbauer. The engine only went into service in August and is the department's first-due attack engine for structure fires.
