Apparatus Architects Tom Shand and Michael Wilbur report from the Fire Department Safety Officers Association (FDSOA) Apparatus Symposium. They look at several of the topics, based on this year's theme of "Getting back to basics - safely."
They highlight some of the presentations, including apparatus designs based on local climate, safe tanker design and operations, apparatus braking systems, aerial systems and more. Tom and Mike also review the NFPA 1901 Standard on ambulance safety, mounting hardware and other new products that were on display. Tom will report on the discussion of custom versus commercial chassis.
