Pelican Products Receives Presidential āEā Award for Exports
Torrance, CA ā May 18, 2012 ā Yesterday, Pelican Products was awarded the Presidential āEā Award for Exports by U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary, John Bryson, at the White House in Washington, D.C. The āEā Awards are the highest recognition any U.S. entity may receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.

Pelicanās President and CEO, Lyndon Faulkner and COO, John Padian were on hand to receive the award. Congresswoman Janice Hahn, who represents the 36th Congressional District (which includes the company's Torrance, California corporate headquarters), was also in attendance.

U.S. companies are nominated for the āEā Award through the U.S. Commercial Service office network in 108 U.S. cities and more than 75 countries which helps U.S. companies export. The primary criterion for the āEā Award is four years of successive export growth or of supporting the export growth of others. āEā Awards are awarded to applicants that can demonstrate a significant contribution to U.S. export expansion that is measurable, innovative, sustainable, and has broad impact.

All nominations are reviewed by the āEā Award Committee, which is chaired by the Department of Commerce, and includes representatives of Ex-Im Bank, the Small Business Administration, and the Departments of Agriculture, Labor, State, and Transportation.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first presentation of the Presidentās āEā Award by President John F. Kennedy. The Presidentās āEā Award was created by Executive Order in 1961 to encourage U.S. companies to sell their products abroad. A second award, the Presidentās āE Starā Award, was authorized by the Secretary of Commerce in 1969 to recognize āEā Award recipients for their continuing significant contributions to U.S. export expansion. A total of 41 U.S. companies and organizations were presented with the āEā Award at the May 17, 2012 World Trade Week ceremonies in Washington, D.C.
