Technology & Communications Newsletter Introduction

April 25, 2012

Dispatch centers are seeing their duties change with the myriad of new technology being  mandated, but their main priority is still communicating with units in the field. In recent months, dispatchers have played a vital role in responder safety during mass-shooting events as they relay vital information.

This newsletter includes a column from Barry Furey on suggested protocols for dispatcher training related to major shooting events. Barry also examines some of the myths related to the Next Generation 9-1-1 technology that is creating questions for many agencies.

Don't forget the FCC's narrowbanding mandate takes place on Jan. 1. Review Charles Werner's article for last minute help.
