PGFD Fire Trucks Destroyed at Blaze

April 7, 2015

Two pieces of fire apparatus, replacement valued at about $1.5 million, were destroyed as they were setting up to operate at a large exterior fire in Capital Heights today. The fire was reported at about 5:15 pm, Monday April 6, 2015. Firefighters were sent to investigate a large column of black smoke, possible coming from an industrial warehouse. The area on the side Charlie, rear of the building, was clear as units took their positions. A sudden and strong wind shift placed the units directly into the path of a fast moving fire. Firefighters tried to move apparatus and use what water they had on board but the fire was too much and moving too quickly and soon consumed the apparatus. Damaged units include the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department "Rescue-Engine" and West Lanhma Hills Volunteer Fire Departments pumper. VIDEO by Mark E. Brady, PGFD PIO
