Dec. 02--The Lawrence Park Township commissioners and the township's volunteer firefighters are scheduled to take their long-running financial dispute to the Erie County Courthouse on Dec. 19.
Judge Michael E. Dunlavey will hear evidence on whether to grant the commissioners' request and appoint a financial custodian for the Lawrence Park Fire Department.
He most recently reviewed the request at a hearing on Nov. 4, but delayed a decision to give a certified public accountant for the township more time to review the firefighters' records.
A majority of the five commissioners in July approved the filing of the petition seeking the appointment of the custodian. Since 2009, they have said the Fire Department lacks financial transparency, a claim the firefighters said is meritless.
