Fire departments around the country can now benefit from a highly-acclaimed fire service documentary - but time is running out.

'Into the Fire' first previewed last year at Firehouse Expo in Baltimore, Md. Copies of the film later sold by the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.

The film, directed by renowned director Bill Couturie, was an intimate look at the lives of the nation's firefighters.

Now, the money collected from those sales is being used to finance grants from the Fireman's Fund, in conjunction with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

"Approximately 100 firefighters die in the line of duty each year," Ron Siarnicki, executive director of the NFFF, said in a press statement. "The 'Into the Fire' grant program will help put critical equipment like thermal imaging cameras in the hands of firefighters across the country -- directly improving safety and helping to reduce line-of-duty deaths."

The groups say more than $100,000 is available for the first round of the program. They say the cash will go toward thermal imaging cameras, and other necessary supplies.

The money comes from initial DVD sales, T-shirt sales, screening events, and other fundraising of the 'Into the Fire' documentary.

Judges will be selected by the NFFF. Future sales of 'Into the Fire' will fund future rounds of grants.

Fire departments can apply until May 31.
