Kentucky Firefighters Reject Contract Offer

Jan. 26, 2006
Pay and benefits are the issue

The majority of Louisville's 500 firefighters voted to deny the city's contract offer.

The president of Louisville Professional Firefighters Local 345 said the firefighters were unhappy with the benefits offered, as well as the lack of a pay increase, WLKY NewsChannel 32 reported.

Mayor Jerry Abramson said the city offered firefighters a viable package that's in line with other employees in Metro government.

The union wants to bring in a professional mediator to help them reach an agreement, WLKY reported.

It's illegal for Kentucky firefighters to strike.
