PLEASANTVILLE -- Two Centre County fire companies will receive tens of thousands in grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Rep. John Peterson, R-Pleasantville, announced today.
Pleasant Gap Fire Company will receive $40,949 and Gregg Township Fire Company will get $46,957 to improve fire-fighting operations, offer firefighter health and safety programs and establish fire-prevention efforts in their communities.
"These funds will go a long way in ensuring the continued safety and preparedness of our local fire departments," Peterson said in a news release. "We need no other image than that of downtown Philipsburg this week to remind us of how important grants like these are to the survival of our communities."
The grants, distributed through the Homeland Security Department's Firefighters Assistance Grant Program, were awarded to 17 fire companies across central Pennsylvania.
