Firefighters at Wright-Patterson said the cuts would create a risk.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base may soon be passing out pink slips.

The Air Force wants to cut 18 firefighter jobs at the base about a year from now. The job losses would affect about 20 percent of the department.

Firefighters said the job cuts would create a major risk at Wright-Patterson. The Air Force has deemed the risk an acceptable risk.

It said if the proposal passes, the Air Force will help the firefighters look for new jobs.

The base also warns that more cuts are on the way in the future.
