The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that there will not be a round of grants announced this week.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that there will not be a round of grants announced this week. The Fiscal Year 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is nearing the completion of its distribution of approximately 8,000 awards worth nearly $750 million in direct assistance to firefighters throughout the country.

On March 7, the program began accepting applications for the 2005 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) grant program. The deadline for receipt of the AFG fire grant applications is 5:00 p.m. eastern standard time on April 8, 2005. DHS also announced that the application period for the AFG Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grants will begin on May 31, 2005 and continue through June 28, 2005. Fire Prevention and Firefighter Safety grant applications will be accepted in September 2005.

There will probably be some final 2004 grants announced including those in the fire prevention group. Firehouse.Com will publish these when available.
