Scranton's fire union, along with other unions representing city employees, has reached a settlement over Mayor Chris Doherty's move to cut pay to minimum wage for one pay period.
The city will pay employees in full for the withheld wages -- along with 6 percent interest -- by Aug. 17, according to The Times-Tribune.
That date, however, will be pushed back to Aug. 31 if the city does not receive aid offered by the state on time.
The union agreed to drop a petition asking a judge to find Doherty in contempt for defying a court order barring the city from cutting wages to $7.25 an hour.
"I think it was a good move on the mayor's part to reach out and come to this agreement, rather than have the judge tell him what's going to happen," fire union president John Judge told the newspaper.
