May 09--ADELANTO -- A deputy recovered pants and other gear stolen from a county fire truck and made two unrelated arrests in the process, according to a Wednesday news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Victor Valley Station.
San Bernardino County firefighters noticed gear missing from their truck after responding to a medical aid call Tuesday night, the release stated.
They called the Victor Valley Station to report that someone had stolen a Fire Department radio, a pair of Fire Department issued pants and boots out of their truck while they treated a child with eye injuries, according to Victor Valley Station spokeswoman Staci Johnson.
At 8:36 p.m. Deputy Ryan Gutierrez responded to the 18100 block of Casaba in Adelanto, and with the help of a good Samaritan was able to locate the stolen pants in the roadway. Gutierrez then found the boots in a nearby yard, according the release.
Gutierrez found the radio inside a barbecue grill in the backyard of the same residence. Anthony Martin, 45, of Hawthorne, had apparently attempted to hide the radio inside the barbecue and was intoxicated at the time, according to the release.
After taking Martin into custody on suspicion of stolen property and heading toward the Victor Valley Jail, Gutierrez observed a vehicle swerving on Highway 395, Johnson stated in the release.
Gutierrez conducted a traffic stop and found the driver -- 20-year-old Antwan Davis, of San Bernardino -- smelling heavily of alcohol. Davis failed a sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the release.
Davis' passenger, Adelanto resident Ronald Rudolph, 55, was also taken into custody for five outstanding warrants.
