Kentucky Man Busted For Impersonating Firefighter

A Laurel County man was arrested and charge with possession of a police radio. He told people he had permission to have it because he was a firefighter.

June 24--LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. -- The investigation into two complaints from the same residence resulted in the arrest of a south Laurel man.

Laurel County Sheriff's Deputy Josh Scott went to South Stewart Road just before 1 a.m. Wednesday to investigate the complaints when he heard police radio communications coming from a vehicle owned by 38-year-old Randy Sizemore of S. Ky. 1223 in Corbin.

When Scott questioned why Sizemore possessed the radio, Sizemore said he was a volunteer firefighter in the county and therefore, was permitted to have a police radio in his possession.

However, after Scott ran a check, it was determined that Sizemore's story was fabricated and that he illegally possessed the police radio. A relative reportedly told Scott that Sizemore used the radio to monitor police activity.

Sizemore was arrested on charges of possession of a radio that sends and/or receives police messages. Sizemore was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center following his arrest. Jail records indicate that Sizemore's bond was set at $2,500 surety and a court date scheduled for Aug. 13.
