Firefighters in Wausau and Weston have said village officials are violating open meeting laws with secret meeting to discuss forming a new department.

July 31--A firefighters union that represents Wausau and Weston firefighters filed a formal complaint with the Marathon County district attorney alleging that the village of Weston violated open meetings law, according to the Wausau Daily Herald.

International Association of Firefighters Local 415, which has about 60 members, contends that public officials met in secret to plan a new Weston-Rib Mountain fire department called the South Area Fire and Emergency Response District.
