Pa. Firefighter Accused of Forgery, Stealing Thousands

May 01--A Philipsburg firefighter waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges that he stole money from his fire company.
Ryan Allen Jones, 27, proceeds toward trial on charges of forgery, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, and receiving stolen property, all felonies, and one misdemeanor count of bad checks.
The charges stem from allegations that Jones stole $14,496.95 from Reliance Fire Company. Jones, the company's former truck captain and treasurer, wrote checks to himself, forging the second signature.
The theft came to light in March, according to Reliance President Dave Mollura, who said the company discovered bills were not being paid when shut-off notices started to come in.
Jones is free on $25,000 unsecured bail.
