Dighton Chief Antone Roderick, Jr. was terminated by the Board of Selectmen Wednesday night.
The board began investigating Roderick after he was suspended in November for the misuse of a clothing allowance.
It is alleged that Roderick used clothing allowances to buy over $200 worth of women’s clothing, according to WPRI.com.
“When we feel their funds are being misused, inappropriate, then it’s our responsibility to step up and do something," Chairman Dean Cronin told the television station.
An audit turned up the discrepancies and the state police determined that Roderick altered documents about the purchases.
Roderick faces charges including larceny, intimidation of a witness, and a public employee standards violation.
"I felt disappointed, betrayed," board member Nancy Goulart said. "I trusted him.”
