Casper's fire chief retired early, after a series of emails suggestive emails were distributed to firefighters.
Kenneth King was set to retire in January, but announced he would retire early after the emails were distributed, according to the Casper Star-Tribune.
Several firefighters received envelopes in the mail, which contained flash drives that held emails sent by King on his city email. They included suggestive emails to women and sexual comments to other department personnel.
“My only comment is that I’m sorry if any of my emails have made anyone feel uncomfortable,” King told the newspaper.
One of the firefighters who spoke with the paper said they were upset by an email King sent to the department about a 2015 line-of-duty death involving a female rescuer from Alabama.
When a firefighter responded, “At least it was just a female," King replied, “Copy that!”
“If the citizens of Casper saw that, they would think that the fire department doesn’t care about women,” the unidentified firefighter told the newspaper
City Manager Carter Napier had seen some of the emails, but wasn't aware of the contents on the flash drives that were distributed.
King was in also in hot water for a 2016 email where he asked an investigator to delete parts of a video from a wildfire investigation.
King was appointed fire chief Casper in 2013.
