New OH Fire Chief Sworn In During Small Ceremony

Robert Pursley Jr., a 27-year veteran firefighter, became the new chief for the Barberton Fire Department during a ceremony that also saw the promotion of two other firefighters.

Robert Pursley Jr. was sworn in Thursday as chief of the Barberton Fire Department.

Pursley is a 27-year veteran with the department, and succeeds Chief Kim Baldwin, who retired in March after 31 years of service.

In other moves at the department, Stephen Ionno was promoted to captain and assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau.

Firefighter-medic Dave Polacek was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the administrative lieutenant position.
