Cheating Allegations Disqualify All Candidates in Mount Vernon, NY, Fire Officer Exam

All candidates for lieutenant and captain were disqualified amid cheating allegations during a June promotional exam.

After allegations of cheating on a promotional exam for the Mount Vernon Fire Department, city officials have tossed the results.

According to News 12, all candidates were disqualified over allegations that they used electronic reading devices and cellphones. Mount Vernon officials believe they also obtained a copy of an exam booklet from another community.

Firefighters took the exam in June for the ranks of lieutenant and captain.

Mount Vernon officials did not say how many people took the exam, and what may happen to those involved.

The promotional process has been postponed until 2027.
