North Babylon, NY, Fire Chief Sidelined after Vulgar Tirade Against Girl Goes Viral
After the North Babylon fire chief's tirade toward a young girl went viral, he was placed on leave.
The incident, captured on video and posted online, showed Fire Chief Peter Alt berating the upset 10-year-old girl as she was being loaded into an ambulance, The New York Post reported.
“Shut the f–k up! It’s like this with you every f–king week!” Alt told her.
“I don’t want to go! I want to go home," the girl shouts back.
“Shut your mouth!” Alt angrily replies.
Department officials denounced the chief's actions, writing: “The Fire Company does not condone this behavior and deems it unacceptable."
"The member has been relieved of all of his duties pending a full and thorough investigation whereupon appropriate action will be taken. The Fire Company is presently reviewing all of its training, policies and procedures and will determine if further training with respect to responding to emergency calls is required.”
Town officials also released a statement to The Babylon Beacon:
“The use of demeaning and inappropriate language by a first responder during an aided call is appalling and completely at odds with the standards of dignity, respect and professionalism our residents deserve,” the town’s statement read. “There is no place in our town for behavior that disrespects or harms the public—especially when it involves a young person or child. The Town condemns this conduct in the strongest possible terms and stands with the affected family and all residents who rely on our emergency services in their times of need.”
