Firefighters and EMS personnel in Central Kentucky are mourning the loss of their go-to guy, the one always willing to share his wealth of knowledge.

Mercer County Fire Chief Glenn Phillips died Sunday, two weeks after his retirement.

Phillips worked for both Lexington and Mercer County fire departments, WKYT reported.

Through the years, he formed lifelong friendships, including one with fellow firefighter and emergency management director Brad Cox.

“He was one of those guys willing to talk to anybody. If you got him talking about EMS, he would sit there all day and discuss it with you,” he said, adding that Phillips taught EMTs and paramedics.

In 2014, the county honored his lifelong dedication by placing his name on the fire training center.

“The amount of knowledge and training that Glenn passed around, we thought it was only appropriate to name our training facility here in Mercer County after Chief Phillips,” said Dan Eades, public information officer.

Firefighters say Phillips made a mark on fire and EMS services, and they will carry it with them.
