Following a backlash from the community, fire department logos will remain on apparatus and in Escambia County.

Elected officials did an about face just 24 hours after issuing a ban on the patches being featured.

When the Escambia County Professional Firefighters called for residents to get involved, that's just what they did, making it loud and clear they wanted the individual decals to stay, WEAR reported.

They are unique and some have special meaning to the neighborhood.

Some honor fallen firefighters, like Lieutenant Terrell Jackson, who died of a medical issue.

The emblem that honored Jackson with his initials, and many others, would have been banned.

Union officials said they were at a loss about why the county made the decision to remove the logos, saying there hadn't been complaints.

Escambia County Administrator Wes Moreno said after the reversal: "After receiving overwhelming feedback from the Escambia County Fire Rescue team and members of our community, we are not removing any individual fire station emblems at this time. We understand these emblems are important symbols for each fire house and represent not just the firefighters, but the communities that they serve."
